Some runners, I included, believe that sometimes, more is less. And this is my view when it comes to minimalist running shoes. I am always curious as to what more makers of these shoes are able to do with less, and that's how I stumbled onto a pair of Merrell Men's Vapor Glove 2 Trail Running Shoes. Anyway, here are some noteworthy facts I discovered about this trail running shoe.
The description of this shoe, in some regards, is nothing out of the ordinary. For instance, the shoe feature a synthetic upper and a rubber sole. The shoe has the low-profile appearance that goes with a minimalist running footwear design. Other than that, the shoe features a breathable mesh made of thermoplastic polyurethane. Merrell also tries to sell the shoe on its outsole traction abilities. Below is what I found out firsthand about the shoe.
What I Like
The shoe has an interesting feature on the insole that gets rid of odor and bacteria using harmless microbes. I really like this feature, because I know that whenever I run on natural trails, especially without socks, the sweat and the dirt that finds its way into the shoe often results in bad odor by the time my run is over. If you have a similar problem, then this feature will be great for you because it will let you keep your feet fresh all the way, a feat few shoes can offer you.
The materials used to make this shoe are all natural and vegan.
This shoe really molds to your foot, and this is something some minimalist trail running shoes struggle with. So, as you run, you will be experiencing a one-of-a-kind running experience while also enjoying all the protection that comes with wearing a great shoe. Naturally, this also means the shoe is quite comfortable, and this is something I believe every runner yearns for when buying a running shoe, minimalist or not.
It really irks me that many “running shoes” out in the market today are not very good for, well, running. This is why I am happy to report that this shoe keeps its promise. It provides a solid running experience for trail running, exactly as advertised. In short, the shoe is strong, and it has the design features to ensure you enjoy a good run along a nature trail.
What I Don't Like
Believe it or not, as stripped down as this shoe is, it still costs as much as fully-accessorized running shoes. Although the shoe is definitely of very good quality, the price might be a bit of a surprise for you, especially if you were looking for a minimalist shoe with the hope of getting some cash savings on your purchase as I was. Even so, be assured that the shoe is certainly worth every penny.
Merrell Men's Vapor Glove 2 Trail Running Shoe is living proof that a stripped down shoe does not mean settling for reduced quality. I like value in any running shoe I buy, which obviously makes this one of the top contenders for the minimalist shoe purchases I intend to make soon.
